GCSE Tutoring

GCSE tutoring starts with understanding your child

Our tutors know their subjects and take the time to build a strong relationship with your child. As that relationship develops, they learn what engages and motivates your child and can adapt their teaching to what they need, helping them build confidence and make academic progress.

There isn't one reason to start GCSE tutoring

The subject has never come easily to them

Some students reach their GCSE years already lacking confidence in a subject. There may be gaps in their understanding, and new topics can become increasingly difficult when they rely on things that never quite made sense in the first place.

Their confidence has taken a knock

A disappointing assessment or mock result can change how a student feels about a subject they had previously been managing well. Suddenly they may be questioning their ability and becoming less willing to tackle work they find difficult.

Their results don't reflect what they know

They understand much of what they're learning, but their test and exam results don't seem to reflect it. They may find it harder to work out what a question is asking or apply their knowledge when it is presented in an unfamiliar way.

They're doing well and aiming for the highest grades

Some students are already achieving good GCSE grades but are aiming for an 8 or 9. At this level, they need to be challenged by the most demanding content and questions, while addressing the smaller weaknesses that can make a difference at the top end.

One-to-one tutoring means spending time where it matters

Your child works regularly with a tutor who gets to know them. That means understanding more than the grade they're currently achieving. Their tutor develops a clearer picture of what they really understand, including where they need more support and where they could be challenged further.

In one-to-one lessons, there's no need to move on from something that hasn't quite clicked or keep going over material that's already secure. As your child progresses, their tutor can adjust the focus and level of challenge so the tutoring continues to reflect what they need.

GCSEs require more than remembering the content

Building knowledge and understanding

GCSE students need a secure understanding of the material required for the grades they are working towards. One-to-one tutoring can focus on the knowledge and understanding your child needs to develop, whether that means addressing important gaps or working on the more demanding parts of the course.

Developing subject skills

GCSE subjects require students to develop skills as well as knowledge and understanding. Their tutor can teach and practise these skills with them directly. They can explain and model effective approaches, then give feedback as your child puts them into practice.

Developing effective exam technique

GCSE students also need to understand how their exams work and what different questions require from them. Working with exam-style questions helps them develop their technique and become more effective at showing what they know and can do under exam conditions.

Getting started

A thoughtful match, from the very first conversation.

Tell us about your child

We want to understand more than the subject or subjects they need support with. Tell us about your child, what they're like, what they enjoy and what you'd like them to achieve through tutoring.

We consider the right tutor

We use what you've told us, alongside your child's academic needs, to decide which of our tutors we think will suit them best. If they need support across more than one subject, we'll also consider whether it's better for them to work with one tutor or more.

Meet in a free taster session

Your child meets the tutor we think will suit them best and experiences a lesson together. It's a chance to see how they get on before you decide whether you'd like to continue.

Begin ongoing tutoring

If you'd like to continue after the taster, we'll get everything set up for your child to begin their ongoing weekly tutoring.

Lasting progress

Regular support throughout their GCSEs

GCSE study can span two or three years, and what your child needs from tutoring will change during that time. Regular weekly tutoring allows their tutor to adjust what they work on as your child progresses and different priorities emerge.

Our memberships are designed around ongoing weekly tutoring, with the number of sessions shaped around the support your child needs.
