Home education when school isn't working for your child

Home education creates the opportunity for a different approach to learning. We help secondary-age students continue their education through one-to-one support built around them.

For families looking for substantial support, we can provide several lessons each week across different subjects, helping your child make steady progress at a pace that works for them.

Their education doesn't have to look like a school timetable

Home education gives you more freedom to decide what deserves your child's time and attention. Instead of trying to cover everything they would encounter at school, their education can concentrate more deeply on what is important for them.

There can also be more room for the interests that genuinely engage them. The aim isn't to recreate school at home, but to make thoughtful choices about what your child learns and how they spend their time.

You don't need to have their whole education mapped out

We can help you think through what your child should be learning, what deserves the greatest focus and how their week could work. From there, we can put together a regular programme of one-to-one lessons, with several sessions each week focused on the areas we've agreed are most important.

Alan, our founder and Head of Education, and Lara, our Academic Lead, stay closely involved. We'll keep in touch with you about how your child's education is going and help you think ahead as their needs develop. If something isn't working as we'd hoped, or their priorities change, we can adapt the programme with you.

Keeping future options open

Home education doesn't mean stepping away from qualifications. For many students, GCSEs remain an important part of their education, particularly in subjects such as Maths and English.

We can help you decide which qualifications make sense for your child and build their learning towards them. Some students concentrate on a smaller number of GCSEs, giving more time and attention to the qualifications that matter most to them. For students who want to pursue a wider range of GCSEs, we can support a broader programme too.

Learning can feel different outside the classroom

Learning at their pace

One-to-one teaching allows your child to learn at a pace that works for them. If something hasn't made sense, there is time to go back and approach it differently rather than moving on because the rest of the class is ready. Equally, when they understand something quickly, there is no need to wait. More of their learning time can be spent at the level that is right for them.

Making learning more relevant

We take time from the beginning to understand your child and what helps them engage with learning. Their interests can become part of their education rather than something that sits outside it. A tutor can choose examples that will resonate with them, follow an interesting question further when it captures their attention and give them more opportunity to explore the things they genuinely want to understand. For a young person who has become disconnected from learning, that can help make education feel relevant again.

A different environment for learning

The environment can make a significant difference too. Students who have found school difficult can learn away from the social and classroom pressures that may have made it harder for them to engage. When those pressures are removed, learning can feel very different. There is more space for your child to focus on their education in an environment where they feel comfortable and able to learn.

Home Education memberships

Ongoing support for you and your child

Our Home Education memberships are designed for families looking for a substantial programme of one-to-one support. They start from three weekly sessions, with no upper limit on the number of scheduled lessons your child can have each week. The membership price depends on the number of weekly lessons in their programme.

Importantly, your membership includes more than their one-to-one lessons. Alan, our Head of Education, and Lara, our Academic Lead, are both qualified teachers and help oversee your child's wider programme. We'll keep in touch with you about how their education is developing, help you review what's working and support you in deciding what should come next.

How we can help

Two ways to give them the right support

Whether your child needs weekly tutoring or a Home Education programme, we start by getting to know them and understanding what they need.

Example programme

6 one-to-one sessions each week: £679 per month

Home Education programmes include 38 weeks of scheduled one-to-one lessons across the academic year. The annual cost is spread evenly across 12 monthly payments, while our wider educational support remains available throughout the year.

*Selected other GCSE and A-level subjects are also available, depending on tutor availability.

Only looking for one or two weekly lessons?

If your child is home educated but you're looking for support in just one or two subjects alongside the education you're already providing, our standard one-to-one tutoring memberships may be a better fit.

*Selected other GCSE and A-level subjects are also available, depending on tutor availability.

Building the right Home Education programme for your child

1. Tell us about your child

We'll start by getting to know your child: what they're like, what interests them, what helps them engage and what has led you to Home Education. We'll also want to understand what their education currently looks like and what you'd like our support to provide.

‍

2. We put their programme together

For some families, that means helping to shape the week: deciding what deserves the greatest focus, which subjects and qualifications to work towards and how much one-to-one support would be appropriate. Other families already have much of their Home Education in place and come to us for regular support in particular subjects. We'll build our part of your child's education around what you already have in place and where you would value our involvement.

‍

3. Meet their tutor

Who your child works with matters, particularly when they'll be spending several hours together each week. We'll introduce them to a tutor from our team who we believe they can relate to and build a strong relationship with over time. We'll also make sure they have the subject knowledge and experience needed to support your child's education. Your child can experience a one-to-one lesson with them before you decide whether to continue. If their programme involves more than one tutor, they'll have the opportunity to meet each of them.

‍

4. Begin their Home Education programme

Once you're happy to continue, we'll put their programme in place and their regular weekly lessons can begin. Alan and Lara will continue overseeing the programme as a whole, reviewing how your child's learning is developing and helping you consider changes to their timetable or priorities when needed.

Tell us about your child

If you're considering Home Education, or your child is already learning at home, tell us a little about them and what you're looking for. We'll use that information as a starting point for our conversation and can talk through how we might support their education.
