Great tutors understand their students
Knowing a subject well is very important. But being a great tutor is also about being able to explain it in a way that makes sense to the individual student, understanding where they need more help and when they're ready to be challenged further.
Our tutors combine strong academic backgrounds with an ability to build genuine rapport with young people. When your child feels comfortable with their tutor, they're more likely to ask questions, say when they don't understand something and engage more fully with their learning.

Our Tutors
Someone they can relate to and look up to
Our tutors are high-achieving university students with strong academic backgrounds and excellent knowledge of the subjects they teach. They are also young enough to remember their own school years clearly and understand many of the pressures that come with them.
Working with a university-age tutor can create a different dynamic from the one your child experiences in the classroom. Their tutor is an adult they can respect and learn from, but someone who can also feel particularly relatable. They remember learning the material themselves, including finding some topics difficult or not understanding something straight away.
There can also be something quietly aspirational about that relationship. Your child is spending time each week with someone who has done well academically and is now pursuing a subject they are genuinely interested in at university. Spending time regularly with someone like that can encourage them to aim higher and broaden their sense of what they might be capable of.

Our Tutors
One tutor who gets to know your child
Your child works with the same tutor each week, giving them time to build a strong relationship and get to know one another properly. Over time, their tutor develops a deeper understanding of how your child learns and where they need more support. They also begin to recognise when your child is capable of more and can challenge them accordingly.
Getting to know your child goes beyond their academic strengths and difficulties. Their tutor learns about their interests and personality, and what engages them. This can shape the examples they use, the way they explain something and even the conversations they have around the learning.
Each session adds to that understanding. The better a tutor knows your child, the more they can shape the tutoring around them, from what they focus on academically to the way they explain things and engage with them.
Our Tutors
The wider team behind your tutor
Our tutors are part of a wider Tutoring Heroes team. Alan and Lara are both qualified teachers and work alongside tutors, bringing their experience of education and teaching to the support we provide.
Our tutors also regularly share ideas and experiences with one another and with Alan and Lara. This gives them the opportunity to discuss their tutoring, learn from what others have found effective and draw on Alan and Lara's experience as teachers.
