A strong relationship changes how they learn
When your child has a tutor who takes the time to really get to know them and earn their trust, they become more willing to ask questions and say when something doesn't make sense. Learning feels more enjoyable and relevant, building confidence where it's needed and encouraging them to challenge themselves and aim higher academically.
“My daughter has made a huge improvement since undertaking tutoring - her confidence has grown significantly, she asks questions and her engagement at school has improved. My daughter is inspired by her tutor and looks forward to the session every week and she really enjoys learning. I am so pleased we decided to use Tutoring Heroes.”
“Our 13 year old has been doing a maths lesson a week for a couple of years now. He does it as an extra activity to consolidate and improve his skills because he enjoys it. He has comfortably remained in the top set and impressed his teacher. We also added science tutoring and he absolutely smashed his end of year exams, finishing in the top 5% for the year. His tutors are young enough to relate to tweens and teens and build excellent working relationships.”
More than the lesson itself
Membership means more than regular one-to-one lessons. It means a carefully chosen tutor who gets to know your child, backed by an academic team that's there for both of you.

The right tutor from our team
We take the time to understand your child and what you're looking for, then choose the tutor from our team we believe is best suited to them.

Someone who really gets to know them
Regular sessions give your child's tutor time to really get to know them. As that relationship develops, so does their understanding of how best to support them.

Keeping you closely involved
We'll keep you updated on your child's progress and make sure you always have experienced educational support to turn to, both for their tutoring and as you navigate the decisions that come with each stage of their education.

An academic team behind the tutoring
Our academic team is led by qualified teachers Alan Hepworth, Founder and Head of Education, and Lara Peachey, Academic Lead. We remain closely involved in the tutoring, with our experience as teachers helping to shape the support your child receives.
Getting started
A thoughtful match, from the very first conversation.
Tell us about your child
We want to understand more than the subject or subjects they need support with. Tell us about your child, what they're like, what they enjoy and what you'd like them to achieve through tutoring.
We consider the right tutor
We use what you've told us, alongside your child's academic needs, to decide which of our tutors we think will suit them best. If they need support across more than one subject, we'll also consider whether it's better for them to work with one tutor or more.
Meet in a free taster session
Your child meets the tutor we think will suit them best and experiences a lesson together. It's a chance to see how they get on before you decide whether you'd like to continue.
Begin ongoing tutoring
If you'd like to continue after the taster, we'll get everything set up for your child to begin their ongoing weekly tutoring.

You know they are capable of more

Their confidence has started to dip
They second-guess their answers, avoid work they find difficult or have started to believe that a subject simply isn't for them.

Learning feels like a struggle
They may be finding particular topics difficult, falling behind in a subject or getting results that don't reflect the effort they're putting in.

They're ready to be pushed further
They may already be doing well but would benefit from greater challenge to keep progressing and aim even higher.
How we can help
Two ways to give them the right support
Whether your child needs weekly tutoring or a Home Education programme, we start by getting to know them and understanding what they need.

Why choose us for online science tuition?
200+ positive reviews and 100% of families would recommend us: confidence-building science lessons, convenient online timing, excellent GCSE/A-level knowledge, detailed progress reports, adaptable teaching styles, and background-checked, experienced tutors.
How do our science teachers work?
Every tutor is a UK mainstream academia specialist, aligning lessons with the school curriculum across all major exam boards — whether that means catching up or moving ahead to advanced topics. Lessons are tailored to each student's specific challenges, from exam technique to tricky maths-based physics equations, using practice papers and step-by-step strategies. Sessions use quickfire quizzes, interactive diagrams, roleplay-style explanations and game-based learning to make science fun and memorable, with confidence-building at the heart of the approach.
Why online science tuition works better
No travel time, digital tools like interactive whiteboards and visual simulations, greater scheduling flexibility, and the ability to match with the best tutor regardless of location.
How much does science tutoring for students cost?
Online tutoring removes travel and physical resource costs, keeping pricing competitive. Tutoring Heroes membership starts at £179 per month for one 60-minute session each week, with the number of weekly sessions shaped around the support your child needs. Each additional weekly session is £120 per month, and A-level tutoring adds £25 per month for each weekly A-level session. There is no minimum commitment, and sessions run year-round, including school holidays.
Science exam technique for GCSE exams & A-level
GCSE: students must apply knowledge to unfamiliar scenarios, interpret data, use scientific language accurately, and manage time — practice papers and understanding command words like 'describe', 'explain' and 'evaluate' are essential.
A-Level: exams assess analysing complex data, synthesising information, and constructing structured answers, with tutors helping refine model answers, essay structure and calculation technique.
When should you join? Ideally 3 to 6 months before GCSE exams, though focused tutoring closer to exam season can still boost performance, especially targeting weaker areas or exam technique.
What type of secondary school science tuition classes do we offer?
Sessions can be split by subject need — e.g. one session on a student's weakest science, another split between the two requiring less work. Tutors cover Key Stage 3 science, GCSE Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and both triple and combined science routes.
Which Basingstoke secondary school students can we support?
Aldworth School, Bishop Challoner Catholic Secondary School, Brighton Hill Community School, The Clere School and Technology College, The Costello School, Cranbourne School, Everest Community Academy, The Hurst School, Testbourne Community School, and The Vyne Community School.
We offer other types of tutoring too
Maths tutoring is particularly valuable alongside science, especially physics, where calculations, formula rearrangement, graph interpretation and unit conversions overlap significantly with maths skills.
